Go (back) West, Young Man...

I secured a 6-mo contract with Oculus Research as a UX designer!

So I'll be moving to the Seattle area in less than a month for the gig.  Well, actually, not exclusively for the gig.  A move out West has been in the cards for a while for my family, but this was the last piece of the puzzle to get us all out there.  Gonna have to hustle as soon as I land to meet all the crazy interesting VR talent out there so that I feel safe when this contract expires.

Apart from the absurd logistics associated with moving a family cross-country, I'm dealing with a lot of mixed emotions.  I feel so fortunate to have met and worked alongside so many amazing talented people, and in many ways so foolish to step away from these relationships.  In terms of personal growth -- I don't know how much of the last 15 years of my life can be directly associated to NYC itself, but I know I'll sure as hell miss NYC.  Not sure what I'll miss -- I bet the most poignant things will be the things I didn't even realize I had til it was gone...

On the flip side, of course, is an amazing opportunity at an amazing company in an industry that fits my creative passions.  I was interviewed by a handful of really talented people at Oculus, all of whom I'm very excited to work this.  Also, I know that the city is swarming with VR talent, so I'm positive I'll have the fortune of working with other talented VR folks as well.

So, uh, yeah, that's it for now.  I'll of course be under NDA on the stuff I work on while I'm there, but still hope to find ways to stay engaged w/ the community and to contribute, either via this blog or otherwise.

I also have intentions to further develop a community dedicated to the crossover between VR / dance / theater... so stay tuned, especially if you're in the Seattle area or if you and I have worked in some sort of conventional 3d capacity...
